5 It’s very simple to plan a similar event with your own group. This popular trend is knowas “Paint and Sip.” Start by searching online for popular chain studios such as Painting with a Twist, Pinot’s Palette, and Wine and Design, or try to find a smaller, local studio. Once you have a list of locations, you’ll want to call them and ask several key questions. Let them know you are the leader of a local MS support group. First, and most important, should be are they ac- cessible to wheelchairs and scooters? After you have the answer, you will be able to tell them about your group. Make sure you have a first and second choice date in mind. Also, see if you can get a commitment from your members that they will be able to go on these dates. Having an estimated number of people attending will help because the sizes of each studio will vary. Another important question to ask is whether they have someone at the studio that will be able to assist those in your group who may have trouble holding or using a paint brush (they may also have other alternatives). Next, you’ll want to ask about cost, what is included in a session, and if they are able to work with you on pricing. Some studios allow you to bring your own food and beverage; others provide drinks and snacks. Be sure to ask about event length and if they will allow a longer session if your group needs it. You never know what they will do for you if you don’t ask. Don’t be afraid to ask them what you can do to help lower the cost and if they are willing to donate part the cost to the group. If there are multiple venues in your area, call at least two venues to get prices and see what can be arranged. If you are thinking, “but I do not attend a support group,” the best aspect of this kind of event is that you can plan one even if you aren’t a member of a support group.
