I held a luncheon to represent MS Focus on March 23, 2019. I was very fortunate to have the Friendship Chapter #499 order of the Eastern Star to cater the luncheon. The event was held at the Masonic lodge in Ducktown, Tenn. A few of the men from the lodge even attended the event. The speaker was Bethany Whitener, FNP-C, of Grace Health Services. Bethany explained what MS is and how it can be hard to diagnose. She explained howMS mimics so many different health issues. I was impressed at all the questions from everyone. I explained the mission of MS Focus and handed out literature. I’ve talked to some of the guests after the event and they told me how they learned things about MS they never knew! They were happyto get invited and thankful foreverything that MS Focus does! 4 Close Up Checking in with Outreach Volunteers Twyla with Bethany Whitener Event attendees MS Focus Outreach Volunteers are trained to work with both the general public and the MS community in order to spread the word about the programs and services that MS Focus provides. Two Volunteers recently shared updates about activities and experiences. During April, I addressed a support group at a local library in Suffolk County on Long Island. I prepared a presentation about MS Focus that covered all the programs and services they offer the MS Community. Many attending were not aware of the programs and services offered by MS Focus. Specifically, I went into detail about the AssistiveTechnologyand Computerprograms, the BrighterTomorrow grant, Transportation Assistance grant, and Health and Wellness grants, as well as MS Focus Radio and the Lending Library. The group was very receptive and interested in all the options. Exciting stuff! It’s a great feeling to see people's eyes light up when they become aware of many of the free services that they may be eligible for and educational publications they can avail themselves of, and when they see that help is out there!
