I’ve had the device about three months and yesterday I was able to walk about a mile with my husband around our neighborhood. One day I hope to totally ditch my walker. Thank you for helping me gain some of my independence back and helping me to keep moving. Sincerely, Susie Douglas, Dayton, Ohio Thank you, Whitney and MS Focus, for helping me keep my independence by putting money towards my modular aluminum ramp. Light to you always, Darnell Trower, Georgetown, Del. Dear Whitney and MS Focus, Thank you so much for contributing toward the purchase of myWalkAide. What a wonderful invention. Now, all my friends who drag a foot want one! Helping fund the purchase of it is a wonderful gift from people who know what a difference it makes. God bless, R. Jan Myers, McKinney, Texas Dear Susie, Darnell, and Jan, Helping you stay independent is the goal of the MS Focus Assistive Technology Program, and we’re delighted to know it has made a difference in your lives. The AT Program provides more than just mobility equipment. It can help you locate, partially fund, or provide full funding for one of a wide range of devices. These include: • Aids for daily living • Communication devices • Computer aids • Environmental control systems • Home and vehicle modifications • Orthotics • Seating, positioning, and mobility devices • Aids for vision and hearing These types of devices can allow you to function more independently in your daily lives, and continue to participate in school, work, and social and recreational activities. See one example of how this program can make a difference in the story of Eric Pierce (page 31). Finding a form of recreation that worked for him changed Eric’s life. We were pleased to help him continue his pursuits with a little help from the AT Program. The team of caring support service coordinators who facilitate the program (including Whitney Blake, profiled on page 12) have a wealth of knowledge about available assistivedevices.Ourreaderscanfindoutmore by calling them at 888-MSFocus, or they can apply to the program online at msfocus.org. Hello, I can't find words to express my gratitude and appreciation. It’s foundations like this that make living with MS a little easier. Your Beyond MS toolkit and MS Focus Magazine are full of information and stories of survival.
