However, focusing on what we can do helps us to clearly see challenges that may arise, develop strategies to overcome those challenges, and keep making progress. That is why “MS: Change the Focus” has been selected as the theme for 2017 National Multiple Sclerosis Education and Awareness Month® in March. We’ll provide you with tools to help change your personal focus, and – with your help – we’ll work to direct the focus of researchers, healthcare providers, legislators, and many others to the needs of the MS community. To learn more about National MS Education and Awareness Month, see page 34. Cooling Program Helps You Keep Cool For many people with MS, overheating can cause weakness, fatigue, visual disturbances, and other symptoms. Using cooling items to help prevent overheating will allow you to reclaim the ability to spend time outdoors during the warmer months, allowing you to enjoy activities like gardening, barbeques, and baseball games. The MS Focus Cooling Program offers a variety of free items – including neckties, hats, wristbands, and two types of cooling vests – to help you gain relief from heat-induced symptoms and maintain your active lifestyle. Applications are accepted from Feb. 1 to June 1. See the application on page 49, or apply online at: http://msfocus.us/Cooling2017. MS Focus Activities
