In order to attend all of our National MS Education andAwareness Month programs each year, staff members from four departments have to join the travel team. Educational Program Coordinator Debra Forman appreciates their effort so much that she personally buys each traveler a snack to take on their flight. 23. We often get more than double the number of applications we are able to fulfill for a given program. When the budget runs out, our support service coordinators will worktohelpapplicantsfindotherresources to cover the need. 24. Development Director Nathalie Sloane works on big fundraising and awareness campaigns with celebrities, but she also understands how small fundraising events make a big difference. She knows this well from her experience as the proud mom of a marching band student. 25. MS Focus became a smoke-free work- place ten years before it was mandated by Florida law. We are a drug- and alcohol- free workplace as well, but thankfully not a chocolate-free workplace. 26. Art is appreciated at MS Focus Head- quarters.Throughoutthebuilding,paintings and craft projects given to us as gifts by people with MS are on display. 27. Co-Executive Director Alan Segaloff is a travel photography enthusiast. His office is decorated with stunning photos of places he’s visited, many taken while on the MS Focus Cruise for a Cause. 28. Every member of the MS Focus management team is given the training necessary to become CPR-certified. Thankfully, so far they have never had to use their resuscitation skills, although the first aid skills have come in handy. 29. Since the early days of the organization’s history, a plan has been in place for the day when a cure for MS is found. We look forward to being put out of business. 30. Cherie Binns: The Cruise for a Cause radically changed my life. I went from others telling me what to do to manage my MS to really learning and advocating for myself. It got me mobile again and active, and happy and healthy. I feel like I literally owe my life to MS Focus a decade-and-a-half later. And to think they have now been around twice that long (happy 30th birthday!) and I did not really know about them, or the value they place on each of our lives, before 2003.
