During the past few years Dorcas has successfully raised more than $4,000 for MS Focus. Dorcas shares how she does it. Q: What do you want us to know about yourself? A: My name is Dorcas Carter Beatty, 59 years old and still blessed. I have MS, but MS does not have me. I do realize what could happen, but it does not define who I am. MS to me means “Mighty Strength.” I've been married for 21 years to a great and loving caregiver, Calvin Beatty, and I have four adult children and seven grandchildren. Three months after I was diagnosed, I retired after working more than 25 years. I still volunteer at my church, helping out as needed. The doctors told me someyearsagothatIshouldnotbewalkingorstanding. However, I am a woman of faith and I do believe that the Lord is helping me every day. Q: What inspired you to hold an event? A: I was diagnosed in 2003. When I started to read up on this disease, I came across the Foundation and was impressed with its mission. I started receiving MS Focus Magazine and was inspired by the many fundraisers that were taking place as a source to give back. I became motivated to do this event in 2013 and I haven't looked back. As long as I am physically able, I will continue to make sure we ‘arise and walk’ for hope. Giving Back
