This includes practical matters such as learning techniques to cope with the bad moments, learning to engage in healthcare decision-making that is facilitated by your doctor but led by you, and staying current with subscriptions, podcasts, and educational programs. New Childrens Book AvailableA new childrens book, A Conversation About Disability, is available by request from MS Focus. This new bookthe third in a series by family studies researcher Dr. Darbi Haynes-Lawrence and illustrator Niah M. Soultexplains visible, invisible, and dynamic disabilities in child-friendly terms. It helps children to understand accessibility issues, and teaches empathy for the challenges people with disabilities face. The bright, colorful illustrations and use of humor make it appealing to children. It can be a useful tool for parents with disabilities to help children understand their personal situation, but is also a great tool for any parent that wants to raise children who are sensitive to the needs of others. The book includes a five-page parents guide with advice for talking to your child about disabilities, and helpful tips for modeling effective communication when people are rude.
